The Jam

zine - chicago, IL 2023
Role: designer
Print: Laser print @SAIC service bureau
Tools: photoshop, collage, indesign

A zine dedicated to the lyrics of The Jam.
The zine is split into two halves; the first
half consisting of three song lyrics followed
by small explainations of each song, the
second half contains a short interview with
a chicago radio host and the lead singer,
Paul Weller.

When considering the material for the zine
I felt it should fit the post-punk aesthetic.
I also wanted the zine to feel as though it
was created by the hands of each band member
for their fans. What would their fans want
to see?feel?  My research led me to the material
choice of laser printing on newsprint. With
the mass production capabilities of the 70s,
The Jam was able to share their political
remarks through direct social engagement,
outside of performance, the printed remarks
took on the shape of a poster or zine. I
decided to combine both poster and  zine,
giving the fans a little more interactivity.
Part of the fun of being a fan is getting to
represent the band in your own way.

I incorporated five posters, they fold
seamlessly and allow for breaks in the
zine but when taken out they funtion as
wall art. Borrowing from the aesthetic of
the time I used collage and halftone textures
and apply a minimal range of color.
